Gracie Burlington Jiu Jitsu Member Guildlines
At Gracie Burlington Jiu Jitsu, we want every student and family to feel safe, respected, and welcome. These guidelines help us keep the gym clean, organized, and a great place to train.
We ask all students, parents, and guests to follow these standards every time they are in the gym.

Safety & Logistics

Please wait until the previous class is finished and students are exiting the mats before stepping on.

All students must check in before class using the mobile app or the tablet at the front desk.
-
Training bags, shoes, and gear should be placed on the benches, under the benches, or in the cubbies.
-
All jewelry, piercings, watches, necklaces, and other items must be removed before training.
-
Heel hooks are only allowed during No-Gi training for colored belts and only when appropriate for the class.
-
Students must have a white stripe before starting from standing during sparring.
-
Always listen to the coach and follow instructions the first time they are given.
Hygiene
-
No food in the gym.
-
Students must wear shoes or flip-flops anytime they are off the mat.
-
Never walk into the restroom barefoot and then return to the mat.
-
Always wear a clean uniform.
-
Gis, rashguards, shorts, and training clothes must be washed after every class.
-
No dirty feet or shoes on the mat. Please use the wipes provided if needed before stepping onto the mats.
-
Fingernails and toenails must be kept neatly trimmed.
-
Please follow the hygiene standards provided by the gym.
-
Help us keep the gym clean by picking up after yourself and your family.
Respect
-
No foul language.
-
Be on time. We understand life happens, but being late should be the exception, not the norm.

If you are late to class, wait for the coach’s permission before entering the mat.
-
Be respectful to staff, coaches, teammates, parents, and guests.
-
Address instructors as Coach, Sir, Ma’am, or by their name.
-
When the coach is teaching, students should sit or stand with good posture and give their full attention.
-
Talking during drills should be kept to a minimum and should stay related to class.
-
Treat your training partners the way you want to be treated.
Uniform Standards
Jiu Jitsu Gi Classes

All Jiu Jitsu students must have a Gracie Burlington patch on their gi.
-
Students should wear a rashguard or fitted tee shirt underneath the gi.
-
Gis must be clean and properly tied before class.
No-Gi Classes
-
All No-Gi classes require a rashguard.
-
Students must follow the Gracie Burlington No-Gi guidelines.
-
Students should bring their belt to No-Gi class.
-
Shorts must meet the gym’s length requirements.
-
If spats or leggings are worn, shorts must be worn over them.
-
Gi pants are allowed during No-Gi training.
Muay Thai Classes
-
Gloves and shin pads are required for every Muay Thai class.
-
Students should come prepared with clean gear and proper training clothes.
Kids Class Rules
We love teaching kids at Gracie Burlington Jiu Jitsu, and we expect our students to learn respect, discipline, and responsibility both on and off the mat.
Kids are expected to:

Wear a Gracie Burlington gi or have a GBJJ patch on their white gi.

Check in before every class using the tablet or mobile app.
-
Wipe feet before stepping on the mat if needed.
-
Bow before entering and exiting the mats.
-
Sit respectfully if they step on the mat before class begins.
-
Line up before and after class with good posture, belt tied, and hands by their side.
-
Listen when the instructor is talking.
-
Keep eye contact with the coach when being spoken to.
-
Address instructors as Sir, Ma’am, or Coach.
-
Keep hands to themselves unless they are doing Jiu Jitsu.
-
Shake hands before sparring.
-
Try their best, even when something feels hard.
-
Treat classmates with kindness and respect.
-
Sit or stand with good posture when the coach is demonstrating a technique.
All kids No-Gi classes require a rashguard.

Parents & Guardians
Parents play a huge role in helping class run smoothly. Thank you for helping us create a safe and respectful training environment for all students.
We ask parents and guardians to:

Register for class as early as possible.

Make sure your child is checked in before every class.
-
Monitor your child anytime they are off the mat.
-
Keep siblings and other children supervised at all times.
-
No food
-
No sideline coaching during class.
-
Keep device volume low and minimize distractions off the mat.
-
Allow the coaches to coach and the students to learn.
