Welcome to Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club

Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club is a youth wrestling club located in Burlington, North Carolina, serving wrestlers from Burlington, Graham, Elon, Mebane, Alamance County, and the surrounding Triad area.

Our club is open to boys and girls ages 5 - 18 and provides year-round opportunities for wrestlers to continue developing their skills.

Some athletes come to us because they are brand new to the sport.

Others wrestle for their middle school or high school and want more mat time.

Some are preparing for tournaments and want to sharpen specific positions, improve conditioning, and train with different partners.

They don't all need the exact same thing.

That's why our goal isn't simply to run everyone through a list of moves. We want wrestlers to understand positions, develop strong fundamentals, learn how techniques connect, and become more confident making decisions on the mat.

Why Wrestling?

There aren't many sports quite like it.

Wrestling teaches athletes how to work when they're tired.

How to solve problems while someone else is actively trying to stop them.

How to stay composed when something doesn't go their way.

How to win without becoming arrogant.

And how to lose, learn something, and come back to practice.

Those lessons don't happen because someone gives a wrestler a speech about toughness.

They happen on the mat; one practice, one drill, one match, and one hard day at a time.

What do Wrestlers Learn at GBWC?

Wrestling is a sport where the basics matter, a lot.

Our coaches focus on building a strong foundation first and then adding more advanced skills as wrestlers are ready.  Training may include:

  • Wrestling stance and movement

  • Hand fighting and position

  • Takedowns

  • Takedown defense

  • Setups and finishes

  • Top control

  • Match strategy

  • Conditioning and athletic development

  • Advanced wrestlers can also work on areas of their game that need additional attention rather than simply repeating skills they have already mastered.

The goal is not just to know more moves. The goal is to become a better wrestler.

  • Bottom position and escapes

  • Breakdowns

  • Pinning combinations

  • Scrambles

  • Chain wrestling

  • Situational wrestling

  • Live wrestling

Wrestling for Girls

Girls belong on the wrestling mat and Alamance County, NC needs more female wrestlers!

GBWC welcomes both male and female wrestlers ages 5 - 18.

As girls wrestling continues to grow, we want young female athletes to have a place where they can learn the sport, train consistently, develop confidence, and be treated like wrestlers, because that's exactly what they are.

Whether she is trying wrestling for the first time or competing for her school, she is welcome in our room.

How to Start

  • If your child is interested in joining Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club, the first step is to come try a class.

  • If your child does not have a current 2026–2027 USA Wrestling card, they can start by attending our Thursday wrestling class. This class is also part of the Gracie Burlington Jiu Jitsu schedule, so you may see both gym members and Wrestling Club members training together.

    • Thursday class times:

      • K - 5th Grade: 5:15 PM

      • Middle School - Adult: 6:15 PM

  • If you have never been to Gracie Burlington Jiu Jitsu or Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club before, click here to sign up for a trial class. We will email you a waiver the day before class.

  • If your child already has a current 2026–2027 USA Wrestling card, they may try a Wrestling Club practice on Sunday, Monday, or Thursday. Click here to sign up, complete the requested information, and we will email you a waiver the day before practice.

After the Trial Class

If your child wants to continue, the next steps are simple:

  1. Get a current USA Wrestling card if they do not already have one.

  2. Get a pair of wrestling shoes.

  3. Choose the membership option that works best for your family, purchase the membership.

  4. Start wrestling!

A current USA Wrestling athlete membership is required for Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club participants.

USA Wrestling membership allows athletes to participate in chartered USA Wrestling clubs and provides access to sanctioned competitions, camps, clinics, and other wrestling opportunities.

If you're new to USA Wrestling and aren't sure what you need, just ask us. We'll point you in the right direction.

What Parents Should Know

We love having families involved, and a few simple procedures help practice run smoothly.

  • Please have wrestlers arrive with enough time to get ready before their class begins.

  • During Wrestling Club practices, parents and family members should wait in the designated seating area in the main gym rather than gathering inside the wrestling room or weight room. This gives wrestlers and coaches the space they need to practice safely and keeps other areas of the facility available for our members.

  • If your wrestler is participating in multiple classes, make sure they are checked in for each session they attend.

  • Questions? Ask us. Wrestling has its own language and culture, and if your family is new to the sport, we don't expect you to know everything on day one. We are here to help you too!

Wrestling Club Membership Options

Families don't all need the same training schedule, so GBWC offers flexible ways to participate.

Depending on how often your wrestler plans to train, options may include:

  • Club Membership $180/3 months

    • Best for wrestlers training consistently.

  • 10-Session Punch Card $110/10 sessions

    • Use your punches at any eligible Wrestling Club session. If your wrestler participates in two sessions on the same day, that counts as two sessions.

  • Drop-In $20

    • A simple option for wrestlers who want occasional additional mat time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages can join Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club?

GBWC serves boys and girls ages 5–18. The best practice group or starting point may depend on your wrestler's age and experience.

Does my child need wrestling experience?

Not necessarily. We welcome developing wrestlers as well as experienced competitors. For some younger children or brand-new wrestlers, our Thursday Kids Wrestling class may be the best place to begin before transitioning into Wrestling Club.

What's the difference between Kids Wrestling and Wrestling Club?

Our Kids Wrestling class is an introductory wrestling class for ages 5–12. It is designed for children who want to learn wrestling skills without committing to a club or competition schedule.

Gracie Burlington Wrestling Club offers additional training opportunities for wrestlers ages 5–18 who want to develop further, train more consistently, prepare for competition, or supplement their school wrestling.

Does my wrestler have to compete?

No. Wrestlers can train with the club without competing. Families interested in competition can talk with our coaches about tournament opportunities and readiness.

Can girls join?

Absolutely. GBWC welcomes both boys and girls.

Can my wrestler train with GBWC if they wrestle for another school?

Yes. Wrestlers from different schools and communities can train together at the club.

Do we need a USA Wrestling card?

Yes. Wrestling Club participants need a current USA Wrestling athlete membership.

What style of wrestling do you teach?

Our training centers around wrestling fundamentals and folkstyle wrestling, with freestyle and Greco-Roman opportunities introduced when appropriate during the wrestling year.

What should my child wear?

Wrestling shoes and comfortable athletic clothing are appropriate for most practices. If you have questions about specific equipment, contact us before your first session.

How often should my child practice?

That depends on age, experience, goals, school wrestling commitments, tournament schedule, and the individual wrestler. More isn't automatically better. Consistent, productive practice is what matters.
